Job Summary
This position will provide essential medical care for sick or injured animals at the shelter and ensure animals are healthy and ready for adoption including pre-adoption examinations, parasite control, and microchipping. The Senior Veterinarian will participate in public education initiatives promoting responsible pet ownership, spaying/neutering, and the importance of vaccinations. They will contribute to various goals and initiatives to achieve a more humane and efficient shelter operation which include, improved animal welfare, increased adoption rates, reduced shelter population, and enhanced public safety through disease prevention.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills
• Surgical Procedures.
• Diagnose and treat animals including the disbursement of medications and vaccines.
• Supervises and mentors Veterinary Technicians and students from surrounding schools.
• Provides input on SOPs for overall animal services operations.
• Test for best practices for diseases, medical issues, and disease mitigation.
• Performs related tasks as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience
D.V.M. (Doctor of Veterinary Medicine) or V.M.D. (Veterinariae Medicinae Doctoris) with five (5) years of veterinary experience.
Special Certifications & Licenses
Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Must be licensed as a Veterinarian by the State of Texas and hold a DEA Controlled Substance Registration Certificate.

Physical Demands
Light physical effort. Ability to exert up to 35-50 lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.
Responsibility for Equipment & Property
Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; responsible for handing out to and retrieving property/equipment from employees and keeping inventory; use of agency vehicle.
Working Conditions
Fair inside or outside conditions; exposure to disagreeable conditions is brief or otherwise insignificant; space problems; only occasional situations that place the employee in a stressful environment.
