Job Summary

The Communications and Multimedia Coordinator is an outstanding communications professional who has experience in covering news-worthy events. The Coordinator will report on City events, programs, and services. Deliver important news-related content to internal and external consumers; perform first-hand information gathering through on-site interviews, news writing, on-line research, and Q&As with the public. Is responsible for producing news/educational/informative content for all platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging, and meaningful to consumers, while ensuring the City’s community, regional, state, and national presence. Must be knowledgeable of municipality events, global news events that impact the City, proficient at research, embody ethical principles, and always maintain professionalism. The selected candidate will have extensive news gathering and reporting experience.

The Communications and Multimedia Coordinator is a dynamic role that demonstrates experience in storytelling through methods that include media advisories, press releases, news reporting, social media postings, corporate communications, Executive speech writing and PowerPoint productions. Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

• Identify newsworthy events and develop daily reports, including media advisories, press releases, website news stories, social media postings, and news media pitches.
• Attend and report on events that are of interest to City residents.
• Interview City elected officials, City leadership, employees, and people of interest to create news content.
• Gather and verify information regarding assigned news stories through interview, observation, and research.
• Conduct research and write talking points on City-related subject matters for City elected officials, City Executive Management, Department Directors, and other City employees.
• Transcribing and summarizing City Commission Meetings and City events/programs/events for news purposes.
• Receive daily assignments or evaluate City news leads and news tips to develop story ideas for all news platforms.
• Compile and incorporate supplemental material and background information from a range of sources, such as files, reference libraries, and/or individual knowledgeable sources, as appropriate.
• Organize material, determine emphasis, and write story according to prescribed editorial style and format standards.
• Work collaboratively with Communications and Marketing team to ensure proper coverage of City events.
• Represent the City at conferences, press briefings, events, and interviews.
• Ensure professional appearance, language use, and manner throughout reports and events.
• Will edit, or assist in editing, all news content in print, digital, video and/or audios for release.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or a specialized field such as politics, economics, or international relations.
• Minimum of two (2) years’ experience in print news, television, or public relations, and/or marketing.
• Passionate about the news and current events.
• Well-spoken, engaging, and knowledgeable about news events.
• Critically minded, meticulous, and excellent recall of facts.
• A Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Proficient level of judgment with planning, leading, organizing, recognizing, and resolving issues or problems; requires some supervision (e.g., employees that telecommute, assistant supervisors, heavy equipment specialist).

Responsibility for Equipment & Property

Responsible for use of equipment/property such as office equipment, supplies, etc., which are used in office. Use of city vehicle.
