NOTICE OF POLICE OFFICER ENTRY LEVEL EXAM

An Examination will be administered on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at 9:00am

for the position of Probationary Police Officer for the City of Brownsville.

 

Applicants (Male & Female) must be at least 20 years of age (must be 21 upon completion of training). Must be able to pass the Background Investigation, Medical and Psychological Exam. All applicants must be able to read and write the English language and must have a High School Diploma or GED. All applicants must be eligible for future licensure by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE). The eligibility list will be valid for one (1) year from the date of the exam.

PROBATIONARY PATROLMAN - ANNUAL RATE: $39,711.29

PATROLMAN I - ANNUAL RATE: $53,220.48

REGISTRATION: To Register for Testing, applicants must register by submitting their information to email civilservice@brownsvilletx.gov including: 1) Copy of Driver's License or ID; 2) DD 214 (if applicable); 3) TCOLE PID Number for Basic Peace Officer Certificate (if applicable). Scanned or photos accepted (must be readable).

REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Friday, July 18, 2025, by 5:00PM – NO LATE REGISTRATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED

SPECIAL INFORMATION:

  • Persons who have previously, within 24 months, taken the Entry Level Test, and after interviews and background investigation not accepted for the position of police officer, are not eligible to take this Entry Level Exam.
  • Examination will begin at 9:00 A.M. at The Brownsville Events Center, #1 Events Center Blvd., Brownsville, Texas.
  • An "Applicant Study Guide" may be obtained upon request at civilservice@brownsvilletx.gov
  • Applicants must submit a valid Driver's License or ID. (Upon entering the testing area, you will be required to present a valid Driver's License.)
  • Military Service Credit: Applicants must submit their Military DD-214 at time of registration and must have served a minimum of 180 days of active military service to qualify for the additional points. (Honorable Discharge Only TLGC Chap. 143. Sec. 143.025)
  • Existing Certification Credits: Applicants must submit at time of registration proof of their Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) certification in order to qualify for the additional points and must be in good standing.
  • Upon request, accommodations shall be provided to an applicant in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. An applicant who needs special arrangements shall submit a request in writing, five business days prior to the testing date, to the Civil Service Director.
