Job Summary

The purpose of the class is to provide accounting/fiscal support for assigned area of responsibility. The class is responsible for entering fiscal data, updating and maintaining ledgers, journals, and files, and performing various fiscal functions and calculations. The class handles financial records, processing payments, and ensuring that the financial transactions of the department are properly documented and reported. The class works according to set procedures under direct supervision.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

• Knowledge of an extensive body of rules, policies/procedures, or operations; specialized skills that may be technical or non-technical, such as research and analytical skills, composing non-routine documents and letters, ability to use software in complex applications.
• Responds to customer inquiries, complaints, and requests.
• Creates, revises, and edits correspondence and documents such as memos, letters, invoices, reports and/or agendas.
• Schedules inspections, and meetings.
• Performs secretarial duties such as receiving and redistributing incoming mail, answering, and redirecting phone calls, maintaining and updating the filing system, and providing data entry services.
• Receives, receipts, logs, and posts funds from customers, employees, and the public.
• Makes deposits and transfers according to direction of supervisor or established policy.
• Organizes and files receipts and deposits of revenue and expenditure funds into the accounting system. Files bills, vouchers, forms, and statements.
• Performs various accounting functions such as preparing accounts receivable and deposits.
• Processes billing for third party vendor accounts.
• Performs routine office tasks such as data entry, typing correspondence, filing, faxing, telephoning, and photocopying.
• Assists with special projects.
• Performs related tasks and/or other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience

High school graduation or GED plus two years of experience.

Special Certifications & Licenses

Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Independence & Judgement

Average judgment; must recognize and resolve problems such as bad grammar, type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination, when to change or sharpen blade on mower, whether there is a problem/malfunction with a piece of equipment that needs attention, etc.; may involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules.
