Job Summary
The Communications and Multimedia Coordinator is an outstanding communications and multimedia professional who works under the Director of Communications and Marketing Department (CMD) and manages communications and marketing projects, creates informative/educational content through graphic and video production, news and feature reports, develops informational initiatives, while contributing to Brownsville TV and on-line platforms. The Coordinator uses interpersonal, computer, communication, marketing, and graphic design to serve the CMD; leverages communications techniques, plans and organizes city event and promotional material, and interacts with internal and external customers.
The Coordinator will contribute to the efficient operation of social media marketing, Brownsville TV, creative services, while enhancing the overall presence of the City of Brownsville on-line. Responsibilities include producing compelling content (i.e. graphic design, news/feature reporting, video production), supporting City social media platforms and collaborating with various City departments to convey our City's initiatives, events, and services.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills
• Identify newsworthy events and develop daily strategic content to engage, promote, inform, and educate the public through positive messaging on Facebook, Instagram, X, LinkedIn, YouTube, and other social media platforms.
· Build quality, eye-catching graphic and image content through creative storytelling.
· Attend and report on events that are of interest and service to City residents.
· Interview City elected officials, City leadership, employees, and people of interest to create news content.
· Gather and verify information regarding assigned news stories through interview, observation, and research.
· Receive daily assignments or evaluate City news leads and news tips to develop story ideas for all news platforms.
· Coordinate and market city-wide events and community programs aimed at generating a positive impact and enriches the lives of community members and visitors.
· Work collaboratively with Communications and Marketing team to ensure proper coverage of City events.
· Represent the City at conferences, press briefings, events, and interviews.
· Build relationships with vendors and external organizations to successfully plan, communicate, and facilitate events and programs.
· Ensure professional appearance, language use, and manner throughout reports and events.
· Will edit, or assist in editing, all news content in print, digital, video and/or audios for release.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Marketing, Graphic Design, Communications, Public Relations, Media Arts, Journalism, or related field.
· Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in print news, television, marketing, and/or public relations.
· Passionate about communications, marketing, community engagement and current events.
· Well-spoken, engaging, and knowledgeable about news events.
· Critically minded, meticulous, and excellent recall of facts.
· A Valid Texas Driver’s License.

Physical Demands

Responsibility for Equipment & Property
Responsible for use of equipment/property such as office equipment, supplies, etc., which are used in office. Use of city vehicles.
