Job Summary

The purpose of the class is to supervise work crews manufacturing, repairing, and installing traffic control signs. The class is responsible for scheduling and monitoring the progress and quality of work and ensuring the safety of subordinate employees. The employee works according to set procedures under direct supervision and strictly adheres to all applicable state and local laws, regulations, safety rules, departmental policies, and procedures.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

•Serves as a department's liaison with supporting and reinforcing department objectives through the crew/front line supervisors and assists with day-to-day management and administrative functions
•Safely operates tools and equipment in all types of weather, or conditions. The job may include morning, evening, weekend, holiday, split, or other work schedules.
•Maintains facilities, tools and equipment in a clean and neat appearance.
•Maintains buildings and structures following direction from the supervisor and/or manager. This might include, but not limited to, drywall repair, painting, installation of fixtures, pavement hot and cold patches, street signs and pavement markings. It also involves cleaning, washing, moping, sweeping, vacuuming, re-stocking supplies, etc.
•Maintains streets and roadways free of trash, debris, and FOD (foreign object damage)
•Thoroughly inspects and performs daily equipment and tool inspections; reporting mechanical defects, needed repairs, and damage upon daily inspection.
•Complies with all State and local laws; Departmental policies, safety rules, and procedures.
•Reports hazardous and dangerous conditions in and around the facility, including incidents/accidents immediately.
•Operates had and power tools such as trimmers, vacuum sweepers, outdoor hand held power equipment and mowers.
•Performs other related work as required.

Minimum Education & Experience

High school graduation or GED plus one (1) year of experience

Special Certifications & Licenses

Valid Texas Driver’s License

Independence & Judgement

Proficient level of judgment with planning, leading, organizing, recognizing, and resolving issues or problems; requires very little supervision

Initiative & Ingenuity

General guidelines: requires a lot of interpretation and non-standard responses to varied situations; have to figure out where to go for answers (not all sitting there in procedures manual); must take multiple factors into account; some control over priorities

Supervisory & Responsibility

Regularly assigns and monitors the work for three or more employees; has knowledge of long-term plans and goals for the department.

Financial Responsibility

No decision making; authorizes payment of accounts payable based on matching invoices; makes purchases over $200.

Level & Frequency of Outside Contact

Frequent contact with the public or other organizations; interactions may require obtaining cooperation of people; courtesy and tact are required when dealing with moderately difficult or sensitive issues.

Physical Demands

Mostly moderate and fairly steady active physical exertion; may require brief periods of heavy muscular exertion, such as standing, lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, etc, ability to exert up to 50lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.

Responsibility for Equipment & Property

Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; responsible for handing out to and retrieving property/equipment from employees and keeping inventory; use of City vehicle.

Working Conditions

Frequent travel associated with job; periodic situations that cause stress and tension in the execution of regular duties.
