Job Summary

The Golf Center Manager plans and directs the operation of the Brownsville Golf Center and ensures maximum use of the facility by coordinating for its use with the general public, clubs & meeting groups, and tournament hosts.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills

• Management skills; extensive knowledge of a particular subject matter that allows the employee to make decisions and to recognize and solve problems without research.
• Directs the operation of the pro shop, providing for retail sales, cart rentals, range balls, assignment of tee times, collection of green fees, and oversight of golf play, coordination of tournaments and leagues, and maintenance of golfers’ handicaps.
• Develops and implements promotions to encourage and promote golf course play. Schedules and gives or coordinates golf lessons.
• Prepares and delivers lectures and presentations about golf to interested groups.
• Manages the purchasing, inventory, marketing, displaying, and selling of golf equipment, merchandise, supplies, and cost of goods sold.
• Oversees the collection of golf course related fees and sales, including proper record keeping and adherence to established business controls and audit requirements. Prepares and monitor revenue and expense budgets upon approval.
• Ensures the acquisition and maintenance of the necessary fleet of golf carts.
• Coordinates golf operations with Golf Superintendent.
• Conduct staff meetings to ensure goals, policies and procedures are being met and carried out.
• Act as a liaison to community organizations and potential new business particularly by assisting and planning their outings and events.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education & Experience

Master’s degree (no experience), or bachelor’s degree plus two years of experience, or associate’s degree plus four years of experience, or high school graduation or GED plus six years of experience.

Special Certifications & Licenses

Valid Texas Driver’s License

General guidelines: requires a lot of interpretation and non-standard responses to varied situations; have to figure out where to go for answers (not all sitting there in procedures manual); must take multiple factors into account; some control over priorities.

Supervisory & Responsibility

Organizes, plans, and controls the work of assigned employees; coaches and advises subordinates on job performance; responsible for disciplinary actions; participates in hiring and discharge interviews and/or recommendations on hiring and discharge are given substantial weight.

Financial Responsibility

Calculates amounts due, using some judgment; receives and processes larger amounts (several thousand dollars on one day not uncommon); balances receipts and cash from one or more other employees; monitors budget; brings problems to attention of supervisor; has substantive input into overall organizational budget.

Level & Frequency of Outside Contact

Frequent contact with the public or other organizations; interactions may require obtaining cooperation of people; courtesy and tact are required when dealing with moderately difficult or sensitive issues.

Physical Demands

Light physical effort; may require brief periods of heavy muscular exertion, such as standing, lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, etc. Ability to exert up to 20-25 lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.

Responsibility for Equipment & Property

Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; responsible for handing out to and retrieving property/equipment from employees and keeping inventory; use of City vehicle.

Working Conditions

Fair inside or outside conditions; exposure to disagreeable conditions is brief or otherwise insignificant; space problems; only occasional situations that place the employee in a stressful environment.
