Job Summary
The Transit Operator (Non-CDL) operates a transit vehicle with prescribed time schedules. The employee is responsible for providing safe, dependable, and on-time transportation services to the public in a courteous and friendly manner. The Transit Operator (Non-CDL) must strictly adhere to all applicable state and local traffic laws, regulations, safety rules, policies, and procedures to ensure the well-being of all passengers.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills
• Safely operates a transit vehicle in all types of weather, traffic, emergency situations or conditions. The job may include morning, evening, weekend, holiday, split, or other work schedules.
• Thoroughly inspects and performs pre-trip and post-trip daily on bus and equipment inspections; reporting all mechanical defects, needed repairs, and body damage upon daily inspection.
• Comply with all State and local traffic laws; Departmental policies, safety rules, and procedures.
• Report hazardous and dangerous conditions along routes, at passenger stops, vandalism, including incidents/accidents immediately.
• Documents accidents and incidents in detail on necessary forms.
• Drives vehicle safely strictly adhering to time schedules and not deviating or making stops without proper authorization.
• Provides friendly customer service, information about public transit schedules, routes, fares, and other City services using tact and diplomacy, communicating professionally and responsibly.
• Provides passenger assistance as needed.
• Operates a two-way radio or other communication devices.
• Maintains a professional, clean and well-groomed appearance.
• Maintains interior of a transit vehicle in a clean and neat appearance.
• May be required to assist in transit operator training programs.
• Must be familiar and able to operate a computer.
• Assist with Intake as needed.
• Assist with screening and perimeter control as required for facility. Performs other related work duties as needed.
Minimum Education & Experience
Requires High School diploma or GED
Special Certifications & Licenses
Class C Driver’s License
Independence & Judgement
Average judgement; must recognize and resolve problems such as bad grammar, type of procedure to apply, where to refer call or correspondence without specified destination. May involve freedom in selection of work methods among approved routines, setting of priorities, or sequencing of tasks within established schedules

Low chance for error because work is routine/repetitive/simple/reviewed carefully; standard procedures: not demanded to come up with creative solutions; refers anything unusual to supervisor.

Light physical effort. May require brief periods of muscular exertion, such as standing, lifting, moving, pulling, pushing, etc. Ability to exert up to 20lbs. of force occasionally to move objects.
Responsibility for Equipment & Property
Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; use of a City vehicle.
Working Conditions
Fair inside or outside conditions; exposure to outdoor elements is brief.
