Job Summary
The Benefits Business Partner plays an important role to ensure that workplaces follow federal and state guidelines for job safety, disability law and claims management that could affect the rights of employees or employers. The Benefits Business Partner is responsible to maintain employee Workers Compensation program and assist in the administration of the Health Insurance benefit program. Responsible for claims monitoring and administration, report generation, and communication with employees. Records and serves as a liaison to insurance agents/companies’ managers, insurance carriers, medical staff/providers, and lawyers on behalf of city employees.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills
• Responsible for entering work injury related data for all active employees and facilitating Workers Compensation claims.
• Provides technical guidance and training to administrative personnel, supervisors, managers, and City Departments regarding Workers Compensation processes.
• Assists employees by corresponding with insurance adjusters to facilitate work related claims.
• Performs a variety of specialized and analytical duties involved in Workers Compensation claims and processing; assures compliance with applicable laws, codes, rules, and regulations; maintains current knowledge of current legislation regarding Workers Compensation issues.
• Serves as a technical resource to employees concerning Workers Compensation; responds to calls from employees, third party administrator, physicians, medical facilities, and others
• Monitors and records appropriate leave usage related to Workers Compensation benefits; notifies payroll and other appropriate personnel regarding adjustments.
• Serves as a liaison between return-to-work program, injured employees, and administrators in relation to returning injured employees back to work due to work related injuries.
• Assists with preparing information for ADSO and safety meetings.
• Responsible for Health Insurance Benefits administration enrollment and deduction processes of the department.
• Assists employees by corresponding with insurance agents to facilitate health-related claims.
• Enters supplemental policy deductions submitted during open enrollment each year and assist employees with deduction updates on a bi-weekly basis.
• Able to communicate fluently in English & Spanish for daily employee interaction.
Minimum Education & Experience
Associate degree in Business or General Studies.
Bachelor of Business Administration, Management, or related HR field, preferred.
A minimum of three (3) years of progressively responsible experience resolving complex employee issues.
Working knowledge of multiple human resource disciplines, including compensation practices, employee and union relations, diversity, and federal and state respective employment laws.
Special Certifications & Licenses
Valid Texas Driver’s License.
Obtain HIPPA certification within one month of employment.
