Job Summary
The purpose of the Maintenance Worker I is to assist in the maintenance of the Brownsville Events Center. This position is responsible for the breakdown and set up of all events, general maintenance of the Events Center and surrounding landscape areas. This position works according to set procedures under direct supervision from the Maintenance Worker II, Maintenance Supervisor and the Events Center Manager.

Key Functions/Knowledge/Skills
• No special training required; includes knowledge of basic, routine, or repetitive tasks or operations, such as the ability to operate or use simple tools and equipment
• Responsible for breaking down and setting up for all events.
• Responsible to ensure facility is cleaned 100% before each event.
• Cleans the ballroom, kitchen, and restrooms.
• Shampoos the carpet.
• Buffs floors, strips/waxes floors, cleans vents, cleans refrigerators, cleans and maintains chairs and tables, cleans and maintains dance floor, cleans and maintains fountains (filters, drains, chlorine/bromine), cleans and maintains ice machines, cleans and maintains all equipment (vacuums, shampooers, buffers), power washes walkways and entrances, cleans trashcans, paints items as needed.
• Electrical upkeep of landscaping lights.
• Replaces light bulbs inside/outside or building.
• Puts up and takes down banners (with use of bucket truck or lift).
• Maintains irrigation system.
• Operates a variety of powered and hand operated equipment to facilitate maintenance and repair of Events Center (including vacuums, shampoo machine, bonnet machine, weed eater, leaf blower, power washer, lawn mower).
• Performs landscaping duties when needed such as weeding, trimming, fertilizing, irrigating and collecting and/or disposing of trash/debris.
• Requires working with co-workers and alongside other City of Brownsville team members and maintaining a harmonious relation while promoting efficiency. Must be able to communicate with the public. Provide clients with services within Events Center guideline during their event.
• Performs related tasks as necessary.
• Assist PARD in Special events when necessary.

Minimum Education & Experience
High school or GED, or sufficient education to read and write with no experience. Six months of work related experience preferred.
Special Certifications & Licenses
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Independence & Judgement
Minimal judgment; instructions, once established and defined, normally allow the job to be accomplished without direct and/or constant supervision; mostly routine work requiring that employee recognize obvious problems.

Responsibility for Equipment & Property
Responsible for assigned equipment/property used outside of office; use of a City vehicle.
